What Does it Cover?

Section 1: Own Damage & Loss

ICICI Lombard Private Car Insurance will compensate you for any loss or damage to your vehicle and its accessories in the event of -

  • Fire explosion, self-ignition, or lighting
  • Burglary, housebreaking, or theft
  • Riot and strike
  • Earthquake including fire and shock damage
  • Flood, hailstorm, hurricane, storm, typhoon, tempest, cyclone, frost, etc.
  • Accidental external means
  • Malicious act
  • Terrorist activity
  • Damage incurred during transit by road, rail, inland waterway, lift, elevator, or air
  • Landslide or rockslide

There will be a deduction for the replaced parts based on the depreciation rates mentioned below:

  • Rubber/nylon/plastic parts, tyres, tubes, batteries, and airbags - 50% depreciation
  • Fibreglass components - 30% depreciation
  • Glass parts - No depreciation
  • Painting depreciation rate: A 50% depreciation rate will apply to the material cost of the total painting charges you incur. If the charges are consolidated into one single bill, the material component is typically calculated as 25% of the total charges for the purpose of depreciation.
  • The depreciation rate for other replaced parts (including wooden ones) will be calculated as per the following  -

Section II: Liability to Third Parties:

The insurance company will provide you with financial protection in the event of -

  • Death or injuries caused to someone else.
  • Damage caused to property that doesn't belong to you or isn't under your care.

Section III:  Personal Accident Cover for Owner-Driver

Personal Accident (PA) Cover in car insurance acts as your financial safety net against death or bodily injuries sustained in an accident. It comes with your regular vehicle insurance and works just like general insurance that provides financial protection.

In the event of death or bodily injury sustained by the owner-driver, the company will pay them compensation based on the below data:

What Is Not Covered?

The company is not responsible for -

  • Expenses due to loss, wear and tear, mechanical or electrical failures or breakages.
  • Damage to tyres and tubes, unless your vehicle is also damaged at the same time. In that case, the company will only cover 50% of the replacement cost.
  • Damage caused while driving the vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Insured Declared Value (IDV)

The Insured Declared Value, or IDV, is the highest amount that your insurance company will cover if your vehicle is damaged or stolen. In other words, the IDV is the maximum compensation you can receive from your vehicle insurance.

Here’s  the schedule of depreciation for determining the Insured Declared Value (IDV) of a vehicle -

General Exceptions

The insurer will not provide coverage for:

  • Any accidental loss or damage, or liability that occurs outside the geographical area.
  • Any claims related to contractual obligations.
  • Any loss, damage, or liability that occurs while your vehicle is being used in a way that goes against the "Limitations as to Use" or is being driven by someone other than the driver specified in the driver's clause.
  • Damage or loss to any property arising from consequential losses
  • Damage, whether directly or indirectly caused by ionising radiations or contamination by radioactivity. This includes both nuclear fuel and nuclear waste resulting from the combustion of nuclear fuel. The term "combustion" in this context refers to any self-sustaining process of nuclear fission.
  • Any loss, damage, or liability that is directly or indirectly caused by nuclear weapons material.
  • Any accidental loss, damage, or liability caused by war, invasion, acts of foreign enemies, etc. including losses that are directly or indirectly related to these occurrences. In the event of any claim, you must show that the accidental loss, damage, and/or liability occurred separately from and had no connection to any of the mentioned occurrences or their consequences. If you fail to provide such evidence, the company will not be responsible for making any payment for that claim.

 

 

Add-ons Available With ICICI Lombard Private Car Insurance

1. Zero Depreciation
If you pay an extra premium to the insurance company, they will not deduct any amount for depreciation when replacing damaged parts of your insured vehicle and/or its accessories caused by any perils covered under the policy. However, please note that this endorsement only applies to the first two claims made during the policy period. Any subsequent claims may be subject to a deduction for depreciation at mentioned rates as specified in the policy schedule.

The add-on will only apply if the company has accepted a claim under Section 1 of the policy.. However, it will not be applicable if the vehicle is declared a total loss or constructive total loss under the policy.

You will have to pay a certain amount called the Voluntary Deductible every time you file a claim covered by this add-on. This is in addition to the deductible applied under the basic policy. And, a discount will be given in the premium calculated for this add-on, as shown in the attached grid called "Voluntary Deductible for Zero Depreciation”.

2. Consumable Items
If you pay an extra premium, the insurance company will cover expenses incurred by you for consumable items in the event of damage to your vehicle and/or its accessories, caused by any peril covered under the policy.

Consumable items refer to articles or substances that have specific uses. When used for their intended purposes, these items are either completely used up or made suitable for continuous and permanent use.

These include nuts and bolts, screws, washers, grease, lubricants, clips, AC gas, bearings, distilled water, engine oil, oil filters, fuel filters, brake oil, and similar items that are covered under this policy and subject to its terms, exceptions, conditions, and limitations.

3. Garage Cash
If you pay an extra premium to the insurance company, they will -

  • Pay a daily allowance for each day your vehicle is being repaired in a garage due to loss or damage covered by the policy. This allowance is stated in the schedule and is subject to a maximum number of days also specified in the schedule.
  • Pay a lump-sum amount stated in the schedule in the event of a total loss or constructive total loss of your vehicle,

The add-on allows a maximum of three payable claims.

The coverage applies only if -

  • The company admits the claim under Section I of the policy.
  • The insured vehicle is repaired for a certain number of days as mentioned in the schedule. After that, the claim under this add-on will be payable from the day the vehicle is returned by the garage.
  •  The vehicle is stolen and is not recovered within 90 days from the theft date.
  • The claim is reported to the company within 24 hours of the loss or damage.
  • The repair work is done at the company's authorised garages.
  • The time span that the insured vehicle is being repaired for in a garage because of loss or damage and for which the company will cover the claim, will be calculated from the day after the vehicle is dropped off at the garage until the day before it is ready for pickup or the invoice for the repair is issued, whichever happens first.

Once the vehicle is taken out of the garage, the company will not be responsible for any additional payment regarding the accidental loss or damage.

The company cannot be held responsible for any delays if -

a) Your vehicle is not delivered to the garage within 24 hours of the accident or loss, and

 b) The necessary spare parts for repair are not available.

4. NCB Protect
If you pay an extra premium, you will receive a No Claims Bonus according to the following table  under Section I of the policy.

You will not receive any No Claim Bonus if you file more than three claims under Section I of the policy during the same policy period. This is subject to the terms, exceptions, conditions, and limitations of the policy.

5. Return to Invoice
Upon payment of an extra premium, the company will pay the sum insured which is calculated as the difference between your Insured Declared Value (IDV) of your vehicle and the total actual expenses incurred to purchase a new vehicle of the same make and model as the insured vehicle, in accordance with the on-road price listed by the manufacturer or dealer in case of a total loss or constructive total loss, as defined in the policy.

In this case,

  • The on-road price is the total cost of buying a new vehicle. It includes the value of any accessories that come with the vehicle, as well as the cost of registering the vehicle, road tax, and insurance cost.
  • The sum insured under this add-on will be based on the last selling price of the vehicle in the case of outdated models,

Note : The coverage is  subject to the terms, exceptions, conditions, and limitations of this policy.

6. Engine Protect Plus
Upon payment of an extra fee, the company will provide compensation to you for costs associated with repairing or replacing damaged engine parts, differential parts, and gearbox parts caused by water entry  or leakage of lubricating oil.

Here, coverage for accidents requires proof of damage to the undercarriage, specifically the engine parts, gearbox parts, and/or differential parts, resulting in oil leakage and subsequent harm to the covered parts.

The company is not responsible for -

  • Claims that are already covered by another insurance policy or manufacturer's warranty, including recall campaigns or similar packages, will not be accepted.
  • The cost of lubricants in case of loss due to leakage or flushing of consumables.
  • Claims that are reported to the company 30 days after the loss or damage.
  • Claims where the repair has been done without prior approval from the company.
  • Claims for loss or damage caused by wear and tear.

7. Roadside Assistance
If you pay an additional premium, it is agreed that regardless of anything contrary stated in the policy, the insurance company will provide coverage for up to 4 claims related to emergency assistance services. You can request these services yourself. These services are available in areas where the company has garages or service providers.

  • Towing on breakdown/accident

If your vehicle becomes immobile or unfit for driving on the road, the company will arrange towing services to the nearest garage within a 50 km radius of the breakdown/accident location. However, any charges for distances beyond this radius will be your responsibility.

  • Breakdown support over the phone

If your vehicle or any part of it experiences minor mechanical errors, faults, or non-functioning, the company will offer telephonic assistance to help you with solutions.

  • Arrangement/ Supply of fuel

If your vehicle runs out of fuel and can't move, the company will make sure you get up to 5 litres of fuel at the breakdown spot. However, please note that the company will cover the costs of labour and transportation and you will be responsible for covering the expenses of the fuel.

  • Emptying of the fuel tank

If your vehicle is filled with the wrong type of fuel, the company will arrange for technicians to empty the fuel tank. If necessary, they will also arrange for towing your vehicle  to the nearest garage to empty the fuel tank. However, it is important to note that all towing charges will be your responsibility.

  • Arrangement of keys

If you lose your vehicle keys, the company will arrange for the spare keys and deliver them to the location or send the vehicle technicians to unlock the vehicle at its location. The insurer will cover all labour and transportation costs, but you must provide proof of ownership for your vehicle before using this service. Additionally, the service is only available within a 100 km radius of the location.

  • Battery jump-start:

If your vehicle becomes immobile due to a dead battery, the company will send a vehicle technician to jump-start the vehicle. However, you will be responsible for any costs associated with charging or replacing the battery. The company will cover all expenses related to the technician's labour and transportation for the jump-start assistance.

  • Message Relay:

If your vehicle becomes immobile due to an accident or breakdown, the company will send urgent messages to the specified individuals, as requested by you, using any available means of communication.

  • Flat Tyre:

If your vehicle becomes immobile because of a flat tyre, the company will make necessary arrangements to -

  • Replace the flat tyre with the spare stepney tyre of the vehicle either at the location of the breakdown or at a different location.
  • Take the flat tyre to the nearest repair shop and then deliver it back to the place where the vehicle broke down. You will be responsible for any expenses related to materials or spare parts needed for the repairs. The company will cover the costs of labour and transportation for taking the tyre to the repair shop and delivering it back to the breakdown location.
  • Minor Repairs:
    If your vehicle breaks down due to a small mechanical or electrical issue, the company will send a technician to the breakdown location to fix the problem.
    Under this add-on,
  • The company will cover the costs of labour and conveyance.
  • Minor repairs are repairs that can be done at the breakdown/accident site, within 45 minutes, without the need of spare parts.
     
  • Arrangement of rental vehicle:
    If your vehicle breaks down or is involved in an accident, the company will arrange for another form of transportation to take you from the location of the breakdown or accident to your desired destination. The company will inform you of any fees associated with the rental vehicle, and it will be your responsibility to cover these costs.
     
  • Arrangement of Accommodation:
    If your vehicle breaks down or is involved in an accident and becomes immobile, the company will help arrange for hotel accommodation near the location of the breakdown or accident. The company will inform you of any fees associated with the accommodation and it will be your responsibility to cover these costs.
     
  • Referring a Legal Advisor:
    If you are involved in an accident and need legal advice, the company will provide you with the contact details of a suitable legal advisor in your requested area. The breakdown/accident should have occurred at a distance of at least 50 km from your home, as stated in the address provided at the time of policy issuance. The company will inform you of any fees of the legal advisor and it will be your responsibility to cover these costs.
     
  • Referring to a Hospital:
    If there is an accident involving your vehicle and you or any of the passengers need medical care, the company will provide you with the phone number of a nearby hospital.

    The coverage will be provided only if the breakdown or accident occurs at a distance of at least 50 kilometres from your home, as stated in the address provided at the time of policy issuance.
     
  • Taxi Benefits:
    If your vehicle becomes immobile due to an accident or breakdown, the company will offer free transportation service for the occupants inside the insured vehicle for up to 50 kilometres. The coverage will be provided only if the accident happened at least 50 kilometres away from your residential address declared at the time of policy issuance.

    You will need to pay for any additional distance travelled beyond what is already covered. If the company is unable to arrange a taxi for you, they may ask you to make arrangements yourself and then reimburse you for the amount that was pre-approved.
     
  • Accommodation Benefits:
    If your vehicle becomes immobile due to an accident or breakdown, the company will offer the occupants in your vehicle a hotel accommodation for one day subject to a maximum amount of INR 5000.

    The coverage will be provided only if -
  • The accident or breakdown occurs at least 100 kilometres away from your residential address, as specified in the policy document.
  • Your vehicle takes more than 12 hours to repair from the time of the accident or breakdown.
  • The number of occupants within the insured vehicle does not exceed its designated maximum seating capacity.
    In the rare case that the company is unable to arrange for accommodation, they may ask you to arrange for your own accommodation and submit the bill to the company for reimbursement of the pre-authorised amount.

    The insurer will not be liable for:
  • Aforementioned services in the event of earthquakes, wars, invasions, rebellions,  actions taken by governments or judicial authorities, etc.
  • Claims arising from using your vehicle for racing, rallying, motor sports, or against the law.
  • Claims if your vehicle can be safely driven to the nearest garage or workshop on its own.
  • Claims arising from theft or any resulting losses.
  • Any loss that is already covered by another insurance policy, manufacturer's warranty, recall campaign, or any similar package.
  • Expenses incurred for the supply or replacement of parts or consumables.
  • Any loss or damage to your vehicle if it is being used or driven in a way against the recommendations of the owner's or manufacturer's manual.
  • Services availed without the company's prior consent.
  • Key Protect:
    If you pay an extra premium, the insurer will cover the cost of repairing or replacing car keys, locks, and locksets, including locksmith charges in case of theft, burglary, loss, or damage to the keys subject to the maximum amount stated in the policy schedule.

    The add-on will cover only two claims during the policy period and each claim will have a deductible of 1% of the admissible claim amount (minimum limit of Rs 250). The keys, lock, or lockset that are being replaced must be of the same type and quality as the one being claimed.

    To claim under this add-on, you will need to provide a First Information Report (FIR) from the police to make a claim for burglary or theft. And, any loss or damage to the  keys, lock, or lockset must be reported to the company within 30 days.

    The insurer will replace only broken or damaged keys. The entire set including the key, lock, and lockset will be replaced in case a key gets stolen.

          The insurer will not be liable for -

  • Claims made within the first 5 days of a loss, except in cases of theft or burglary.
  • Damage or loss to keys, locks, or locksets caused by malicious or criminal acts.
  • Any loss or damage to a lock or lockset before the keys are lost or stolen.
  • Losses or damages to only the lock itself.
  • Any loss/damage that is covered under the manufacturer's warranty.
  • Claims where invoices or receipts for payments are not provided.
  • Loss or damage caused by radiation, radioactive contamination, or hazardous substances/materials.
  • Any loss or damage to your vehicle, excluding the keys, lock, ignition system, immobiliser, infra-red handset, and alarm attached to the fob.
  • Loss or damage caused by war, invasion, enemy hostilities (whether declared or not), actions of any government or public authority, etc.
  • Any loss or damage resulting from consequential losses.
  • Loss of Personal belongings:
    The coverage under this service is categorised into two types -
  1. Plan A
    By paying an extra premium to the insurance company, it will compensate you for the loss of your personal belongings in the event of damage or theft from your vehicle up to the amount stated in the schedule. A First Investigation Report (FIR) must be registered with the police for such a claim. And, for each claim made under this add-on, there will be a deductible of Rs. 500.

    The insurer will not be liable for  -
  • Losses in open-top or convertible cars unless the belongings are stored in the locked boot.
  • Loss of money, securities, cheques, bank drafts, credit or debit cards, jewellery, gems, stones, contact lenses, glasses, travel tickets, watches, laptops, mobiles, valuables, manuscripts, paintings, or any other work of art.
  • Any loss of your personal belongings, unless all doors and windows are properly fastened when the vehicle is unattended.
  • Any loss or damage to belongings carried in connection with any trade or business.
  • Theft from vehicles parked in no-parking zones and from unattended vehicles after an accident.
  • Claims reported to the company 30 days after the incident.
  1. Plan B:
    Upon payment of an extra premium to the insurance company, it will compensate you for the loss of your personal belongings (such as mobile phones, laptops, etc.) in the event of damage or theft from your vehicle up to the amount stated in the schedule. For such a claim, a First Investigation Report (FIR) needs to be registered with the police. And, a deductible of Rs.500 will be charged for each claim, unless the claim is specifically for mobile phones and/or laptops.

    The insurer will not be liable for -
  • Loss of belongings in open top or convertible cars unless the items are stored in the locked boot.
  • Loss of money, securities, cheques, bank drafts, credit or debit cards, jewellery, gems, stones, contact lens, glasses, travel tickets, watches, valuables, manuscripts, paintings, or any other work of art.
  • Loss of personal belongings unless your vehicle is locked and all doors and windows are properly fastened when left unattended.
  • Loss or damage to belongings carried for trade or business purposes.
  • Theft from vehicles parked in no-parking zones and from unattended vehicles after an accident.
  • Claims for laptops or mobile phones that were not declared when the policy was issued.

    Any amount exceeding the market value of the mobile phones or laptops, as stated during the policy issuance, will be deducted for depreciation based on Section 32 of the Income Tax Act.
