The Honda Jazz was discontinued in India in early 2023, but tens of thousands of Jazz cars continue to run on Indian roads, and every one of them needs valid insurance. If you own a Jazz or are buying a used one, the legal requirement is unchanged — a third-party policy is the minimum, and a comprehensive plan with the right add-ons is still the smarter choice by a distance. SMC Insurance helps you compare 30+ insurers, choose the right plan for your Jazz and get an instant policy in minutes — with zero paperwork.
Quick Links — Insurance Types:
Third-Party Insurance (Mandatory)
Third-party car
insurance is the minimum legal requirement under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, for every Honda Jazz on Indian roads.
It covers damage, injury, or death caused to a third party in an accident involving your car. It does not cover damage
to your own vehicle. While it carries the lowest premium, it leaves your Jazz
completely unprotected against accidents, theft, or natural calamities.
Comprehensive Insurance (Recommended)
Comprehensive car insurance covers third-party liability as well as your own vehicle damage, making it the strongly recommended choice for all Honda Jazz owners. It protects against accidents, theft, fire, floods, earthquakes and other perils. Given that even a used Jazz in reasonable condition commands Rs. 3 to 7 lakh in the pre-owned market, comprehensive coverage ensures you are never left with a large out-of-pocket repair bill. Optional add-on riders are available for enhanced protection.
Standalone Own Damage (OD) Policy
If you already hold a
valid third-party policy from another insurer, you can purchase a Standalone Own Damage policy separately to
cover repair costs for your Honda Jazz. Standalone OD policies became available following IRDAI regulatory changes,
giving car owners the flexibility to choose their own-damage insurer independently of their TP policy.
Since the Honda Jazz was discontinued in India in early 2023, every Jazz currently on Indian roads is a pre-owned vehicle. Whether you are an existing Jazz owner renewing your policy or someone who has just bought a used Jazz, here is what matters.
Your IDV will be significantly lower than the original ex-showroom price, since the car is now at least two to three years old and depreciation applies from year one. Refer to the IDV depreciation table further below to estimate your current IDV. For cars that are three to five years old, you can expect the IDV to be 50 to 60 per cent of the original purchase price, which directly affects your comprehensive premium.
Comprehensive insurance remains strongly recommended for used Jazz owners. Zero Depreciation and Engine Protect add-ons are particularly worth considering, especially for cars under five years old. NCB benefits apply in full for existing Jazz owners who have been claim-free, and five years without a claim still earns you the full 50% OD premium discount.
On spare parts: mechanical and body parts for the Jazz (2015 to 2022 generation) are generally available through Honda dealerships and authorised parts networks. The Jazz holds up well in the second-hand market, partly because of Honda's strong service network, which also keeps insurance claim costs relatively predictable for insurers.
The insurance premium for your Honda Jazz depends on the car's age, variant, IDV and the city of registration. The table below gives indicative comprehensive premiums for commonly seen Jazz variants in the used car market, registered in Zone A cities (Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad).

Third-party (TP) premiums for private cars are regulated and notified by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) in consultation with IRDAI. The TP rates currently applicable for the Honda Jazz are:
|
Engine Capacity |
Annual TP Premium |
Up to 1000cc |
Rs. 2,094 |
|
1000cc to 1500cc |
Rs. 3,416 |
|
Above 1500cc |
Rs. 7,897 |
The Honda Jazz's 1199cc engine falls in the 1000cc-1500cc slab, meaning an annual TP premium of Rs. 3,416.
Important update (FY2025-26): MoRTH and IRDAI are in discussion to revise TP premium rates upward. MoRTH Notification No. GSR 354(E) dated 28.03.2024 was the last official revision. A further hike of up to 10% is under consideration. Any approved revision will apply prospectively from the date of official gazette notification. Honda Jazz owners renewing policies should check current rates at morth.nic.in before renewal.

Note: The Honda Jazz and the original Honda WR-V were discontinued in early 2023. They no longer appear in Honda Cars India's active lineup but remain on Indian roads as pre-owned vehicles, classified under the 1000cc-1500cc TP slab.
The Insured Declared Value (IDV) is the maximum amount your insurer will pay in case of total loss or theft of your Honda Jazz. IDV is calculated based on the ex-showroom price minus depreciation, as per IRDAI-prescribed depreciation rates:
|
Car Age |
Standard Depreciation |

|

50% |
For cars older than 5 years, IDV is agreed upon mutually between the insurer and the policyholder.
Since all Jazz cars on the road today are pre-owned, IDV is a particularly important figure — a Jazz VX CVT
originally purchased at Rs. 11.10 lakh in 2021, for instance, would carry an IDV of approximately Rs. 5.55 lakh today, based on five years of depreciation. Higher IDV means better coverage but slightly higher premium.
Do not choose the lowest possible IDV to shave a few hundred rupees off the premium — it leaves you significantly under-compensated if the car is totalled or stolen.
IRDAI classifies Indian cities into Zone A and Zone B for motor insurance pricing. Zone A cities carry slightly higher premiums due to greater traffic density, accident frequency and theft rates.
Zone A Cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad
Zone B Cities: All other cities and towns in India

Zone B (e.g., Coimbatore, Jaipur) |

Premiums vary further based on insurer, IDV, NCB and add-ons selected.
If you haven't made any claim during a policy year, you earn a No Claim Bonus (NCB) - a discount applied to the own-damage (OD) portion of your premium at renewal. NCB is one of the most valuable benefits for careful Honda Jazz owners.

Key NCB Facts:
NCB belongs to the owner, not the car — it transfers when you change insurers.
NCB is lost if you make an own-damage claim during the policy year.
You can protect your accumulated NCB with an NCB Protect Add-on — especially useful for high-NCB policyholders at the 45–50% level.
Standard comprehensive insurance can be enhanced with optional add-on covers. The most useful ones for Honda Jazz owners are:
Zero Depreciation Cover (Zero Dep):
At the time of a claim, insurers normally deduct depreciation from parts (plastic, rubber, glass, metal). Zero Dep eliminates this deduction, so you receive the full repair or replacement cost without any depreciation cut. Strongly recommended for Honda Jazz cars under 5 years old. Visit SMC Insurance to learn more.
Engine protector cover
Covers damage to the engine and gearbox caused by water ingression, hydrostatic lock, or leakage of lubricating oil, which are events not covered under standard comprehensive policies. Particularly important for Jazz owners driving in flood-prone areas. Visit SMC Insurance to learn more.
Return to invoice (RTI) cover
In case of total loss (theft or beyond-economical-repair damage), RTI pays you the original invoice value of your Honda Jazz, not just the depreciated IDV. Most relevant for Jazz cars that are still within their first four to five years. Visit SMC Insurance to learn more.
Roadside assistance (RSA)
Provides 24x7 help if your Jazz breaks down anywhere, covering towing, battery jump-start, flat tyre assistance, emergency fuel delivery and more. Available from most insurers at a minimal additional premium. Visit SMC Insurance to learn more.
Key and lock replacement cover
Covers the cost of replacing lost or damaged car keys and locks, which is a practical and affordable add-on for urban Jazz owners. Visit SMC Insurance to learn more.
Tyre protection cover
Covers repair or replacement of damaged tyres and tubes due to accidental damage, bulging, or burst — expenses not covered under standard comprehensive policies.
Consumables cover
Covers the cost of consumables like engine oil, coolant, nuts and bolts, grease and other items usually excluded from standard claims. Useful for Jazz owners who want maximum claim settlement without deductions.
NCB protect
Allows you to make one own-damage claim in a policy year without losing your accumulated NCB. Highly recommended for Jazz policyholders who have built up 35–50% NCB over the years.

The Honda Jazz is no longer sold as a new car in India, but that doesn't change what its owners need. Every Jazz on the road still needs valid insurance, and the argument for comprehensive coverage with the right add-ons is just as strong for a three-year-old Jazz as it was when the car was new. If anything, a well-maintained used Jazz at a reasonable IDV is a more cost-efficient car to insure than many newer hatchbacks in its segment. What matters is choosing the right IDV, not the lowest one, and carrying the add-ons that actually match how and where you drive. SMC Insurance makes the comparison process simple, with quotes from over 30 leading insurers, your NCB applied automatically, and a claims team that stays with you through the process from start to finish.

Yes, under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, every Honda Jazz on public roads in India must hold a valid third-party liability insurance policy at minimum, regardless of whether the car is new or pre-owned. Driving without insurance carries a fine of up to Rs. 2,000 for the first offence and Rs. 4,000 for repeat violations. Since the Jazz is now only available in the used car market, comprehensive coverage remains strongly recommended to protect its current market value.
The legal minimum is a third-party (TP) policy. For cars already on the road, annual TP renewal is required. A TP-only policy leaves your Jazz completely unprotected against accidents, theft, floods, or fire. Given that even an older Jazz in good condition holds meaningful resale value, a comprehensive plan with relevant add-ons is the right call for most owners.
IDV equals the original ex-showroom price of your Honda Jazz minus IRDAI-prescribed depreciation. A Jazz V CVT originally purchased at Rs. 9.90 lakh that is now four years old would carry an IDV of approximately Rs. 5.94 lakh after 40% depreciation. Always choose an IDV close to the current market value for your car, because a lower IDV saves only a marginal premium today but leaves you significantly under-compensated in a total loss or theft claim.
Yes, NCB is fully portable across insurers and you will need an NCB certificate or renewal notice from your previous insurer to carry it forward. Since NCB belongs to the owner and not the car, it also transfers when you sell your Jazz and purchase a new vehicle. Five claim-free years earns a 50% discount on the OD premium, making it one of the most valuable long-term benefits for any Honda Jazz owner.
Standard comprehensive insurance covers damage caused by floods, waterlogging, storms and cyclones. However, engine damage from hydrostatic lock, where water enters the engine while driving through a flooded road, is excluded unless you have added an Engine Protector rider. Jazz owners in Chennai, Mumbai or Bengaluru should strongly consider this add-on, particularly given India's increasingly unpredictable monsoon flooding.
If your Jazz policy lapses by more than 90 days, the insurer will require a pre-acceptance inspection before reinstating coverage, and you also lose all accumulated NCB. For lapses under 90 days, most insurers renew without inspection. Always renew before the expiry date to protect your NCB, avoid inspection delays and remain legally compliant on Indian roads.
Standard comprehensive insurance deducts depreciation on replaced parts, typically 25 to 50% on plastic, rubber and metal components. Zero Depreciation eliminates this deduction entirely, so you receive the full repair or replacement cost at claim settlement. For a Honda Jazz under 5 years old, Zero Dep ensures maximum claim payouts, especially for bumper, light cluster, or windshield replacements.
Every Honda Jazz insurance policy mandatorily includes a Compulsory Personal Accident (CPA) cover of Rs. 15 lakh for the owner-driver. This protects against accidental death or permanent total disability while driving. Optional co-passenger PA cover is available as an add-on. The CPA premium is Rs. 750 per year and is bundled into your policy. It cannot be waived unless you already hold a separate standalone personal accident policy.
