Skoda Auto Volkswagen India currently retails a lean, all-petrol line-up in India — from the sub-4-metre Kylaq compact SUV to the limited-edition, CBU-imported Kodiaq RS at Rs. 66.99 Lakh. Unlike several rivals, Skoda doesn't (yet) sell a diesel or electric model in India — every car in its current range runs a TSI turbo-petrol engine, with electric models like the Elroq and Enyaq still upcoming. Whatever Skoda you drive, having the right car insurance is both a legal requirement and essential financial protection. SMC Insurance helps you compare 30+ insurers, choose the right plan for your specific Skoda model and get an instant policy in minutes — with zero paperwork.

The Kodiaq RS is a limited run of 50 CBU-imported units sold in India. Skoda's upcoming EVs (Elroq, Enyaq, Epiq) are expected between late 2026 and 2027 and will be added once launched. A new-generation Skoda Superb premium sedan has also been showcased for India and is at an advanced pre-launch/early-launch stage as of mid-2026 (reports on its exact on-sale status vary); it will be added as a sixth model with its own insurance guide once official pricing is confirmed.
Quick Links — Insurance Types:
Third-Party Insurance (Mandatory)
Third-party car insurance is the
minimum legal requirement under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, for every Skoda car on Indian roads — whether it's an entry-level Kylaq or a limited-edition
Kodiaq RS. It covers damage, injury, or death caused to a third party in an accident involving your car. It does not cover damage to your own vehicle,
leaving even a well-maintained Skoda completely unprotected against accidents, theft, or natural calamities.
Comprehensive Insurance (Recommended)
Comprehensive car insurance
covers third-party liability and your own vehicle damage, making it the strongly recommended choice for all Skoda owners. It protects against accidents,
theft, fire, floods, earthquakes and other perils. Given that Skoda's TSI turbo-petrol engines and European build carry relatively higher part and
service costs than mass-market rivals, comprehensive coverage with the right add-ons ensures you are never left with a large out-of-pocket repair bill,
whatever model you own.
Standalone Own Damage (OD) Policy
If you already hold a valid
third-party policy from another insurer, you can purchase a Standalone Own Damage policy separately to cover repair costs for your Skoda. Standalone OD
policies became available following IRDAI regulatory changes, giving car owners the flexibility to choose their own-damage insurer independently of
their TP policy.
The insurance premium for your Skoda depends heavily on the specific model, variant, fuel type and city of registration. The table below gives indicative premiums for one representative model per major Skoda segment, for brand-new cars registered in Zone A cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Pune and Ahmedabad:
|

Rs. 66.99 Lakh |
Rs. 63.65 Lakh |
Rs. 11,100 approx. |
Rs. 1,95,000 onwards |
Note: Premiums are indicative estimates for brand-new cars registered at Coimbatore (TN-38) RTO. Actual premiums vary by exact model, variant, fuel type, IDV chosen, city and insurer. Use the quote tool above, or your specific model's insurance page, for an exact price.
Third-party (TP) premiums for private cars are regulated and notified by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) in consultation with IRDAI, based on engine capacity (cc). Since every current Skoda model in India runs a TSI turbo-petrol engine, the entire line-up falls under the standard cc-based slabs below — there's no separate EV slab to consider yet, as the Elroq, Enyaq and Epiq are still upcoming:
Annual Third-Party Premium (Private Petrol Cars)
|
Engine Capacity |
Annual TP Premium |
Up to 1000cc |
Rs. 2,094 |
1000cc to 1500cc |
Rs. 3,416 |
Above 1500cc |
Rs. 7,897 |
|
Slab |
Skoda Models |
Up to 1000cc — Rs. 2,094 TP |
Kylaq (1.0 TSI, 999cc), Slavia base variants (1.0 TSI, 999cc), Kushaq base variants (1.0 TSI, 999cc) |
1000cc–1500cc — Rs. 3,416 TP |
Slavia higher variants (1.5 TSI, 1498cc), Kushaq higher variants (1.5 TSI, 1498cc) |
Above 1500cc — Rs. 7,897 TP |
Kodiaq (2.0 TSI, 1984cc), Kodiaq RS (2.0 TSI Twin-Turbo, 1984cc) |
Note: This slab table will need a new "Electric Cars" row once the Elroq, Enyaq or Epiq launch in India, since those will be priced under IRDAI's separate kW-based EV structure rather than the cc-based slabs above.
Note: A Third-Party Premium Revision May Be Coming in FY 2026-27 MoRTH and IRDAI are currently discussing a proposal to raise third-party premiums by 10-25% across vehicle segments, based on claims experience - the first such revision in nearly six years. The exact new rates have not yet been officially notified, so the rates in the table above remain in force for now.
The Insured Declared Value (IDV) is the maximum amount your insurer will pay in case of total loss or theft of your Skoda. IDV is calculated based on the ex-showroom price minus depreciation, as per IRDAI-prescribed depreciation rates — the same formula applies whether you drive a Kylaq or a Kodiaq RS:
|
Car Age |
Standard Depreciation |
IDV Retained |
Less than 6 months |
5% |
95% |
6 months to 1 year |
15% |
85% |

20% |
80% |
2 to 3 years |
30% |
70% |
3 to 4 years |
40% |
60% |
4 to 5 years |
50% |
50% |
For cars older than 5 years, IDV is agreed upon mutually between the insurer and
the policyholder. Higher IDV means better coverage but slightly higher premium.
Always avoid choosing the lowest IDV to reduce premium —
it leaves you under-insured in case of total loss, and the gap is proportionally larger the more expensive your specific Skoda model is.
IRDAI classifies Indian cities into Zone A and Zone B for own-damage (OD) pricing. Zone A cities carry slightly higher premiums due to greater traffic density, accident frequency and theft rates.
Zone A Cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad
Zone B Cities: All other cities and towns in India
Estimated Premium for a 3-Year-Old Skoda Kushaq (1.5 TSI):
|
Zone |
Estimated Comprehensive Premium |
Zone A (e.g., Delhi, Mumbai) |
Rs. 23,500 – Rs. 30,000 |
Zone B (e.g., Coimbatore, Madurai) |
Rs. 19,200 – Rs. 24,500 |
Premiums vary further based on the exact model, insurer, IDV, NCB and add-ons selected.
If you haven't made any claim during a policy year, you earn a No Claim Bonus (NCB) — a discount applied to the own-damage (OD) portion of your premium at renewal. NCB is one of the most valuable benefits for careful Skoda owners across every model in the range.

Key NCB Facts:
NCB belongs to the owner, not the car — it transfers when you change insurers, and even when you trade in one Skoda model for another.
NCB is lost if you make an own-damage claim during the policy year.
You can protect your accumulated NCB with an NCB Protect add-on — especially useful for high-NCB policyholders (45–50%) on higher-value models like the Kodiaq or Kodiaq RS.
Standard comprehensive insurance can be enhanced with optional add-on covers. The most useful add-ons for Skoda cars are:
Zero depreciation cover
At the time of a claim, insurers normally deduct depreciation from
parts such as plastic, rubber, glass and metal. Zero Dep eliminates this deduction — you receive the full repair/replacement cost without any
depreciation cut. Strongly recommended across the Skoda range, since European-sourced parts and TSI/DSG components tend to cost more to replace
than mass-market equivalents, making the depreciation cut more painful without this add-on.
Engine protector cover
The engine
protector coverage covers damage to the engine and gearbox caused by water ingression, hydrostatic lock, or leakage of lubricating oil —
events not covered under standard comprehensive policies. Relevant across the Skoda range, since every current model uses a turbocharged TSI
petrol engine that can be sensitive to water ingress at the turbo intake during waterlogged conditions.
Return to invoice (RTI) cover
In case of total loss (theft or beyond-economical-repair damage), RTI
pays you the original invoice value of your Skoda — not just the depreciated IDV. Strongly recommended for the first 1–3 years of ownership,
particularly on higher-value models like the Kodiaq and the limited-run Kodiaq RS.
Roadside assistance (RSA)
RSA provides 24x7 help if your Skoda breaks down anywhere — towing, battery jump-start, flat tyre assistance, emergency fuel and more.
Worth having given that Skoda's service network, while growing, is still less widespread than mass-market Indian and Japanese-Korean
brands.
Key and lock replacement cover
Key and lock replacement cover provides the cost of replacing lost or damaged car keys and locks — a
practical add-on for urban Skoda owners across models.
Tyre protection cover
Covers repair or replacement of damaged tyres and tubes due to accidental damage,
bulging, or burst — expenses not covered under standard policies.
Consumables cover
Covers the cost of consumables like engine oil, coolant, nuts and bolts,
grease and other items that are usually excluded from standard claims. Useful for Skoda owners who want maximum claim settlement without
deductions.
NCB Protect
Allows you to make one own-damage claim in a policy year without
losing your accumulated NCB. Highly recommended for policyholders with 35–50% NCB.

Excellent Service
I have purchased a new vehicle and was looking for the car insurance with comprehensive coverage. SMC Website was quick to assist me with the premium amount and the payment process was easy. Happy with their services.
Smooth Process
I purchased my car insurance from SMC, and it has truly been worth it. When my car caused third-party damage, I simply shared the photos and videos with them. Thanks to Sachin, the customer executive, my insurer settled the claim within just a week. Really satisfied with the service!
Excellent Support
This is the best insurance company as they have assisted me well while buying the car insurance policy. Kudos to SMC!
Yes, under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, every car on public roads in India (from a Kylaq to a Kodiaq RS) must carry at least a valid third-party liability insurance policy. Driving your Skoda without insurance carries a fine of up to Rs. 2,000 for the first offence and Rs. 4,000 for subsequent offences, along with possible vehicle impoundment. We strongly recommend a comprehensive policy over bare-minimum third-party coverage.
The minimum is a third-party (TP) insurance policy. For new Skoda cars, a 3-year bundled TP policy is mandatory at the time of purchase. For Skoda cars already on the road, annual TP renewal is required. While TP is the legal minimum, it leaves your car unprotected against accidents, theft, and natural calamities. Comprehensive insurance is strongly recommended for better financial protection, especially given the relatively higher repair costs on European models.
Generally yes, since the Kylaq's lower ex-showroom price gives it a lower IDV, which brings down the own-damage premium. Its 1.0 TSI engine (999cc) also falls in the lowest "up to 1000cc" TP slab (Rs. 2,094/year), the same as the base variants of the Slavia and Kushaq. Where the Slavia or Kushaq is specified with the 1.5 TSI engine (1498cc), it moves into the higher "1000cc–1500cc" TP slab (Rs. 3,416/year).
IDV (Insured Declared Value) is the ex-showroom price of your Skoda minus depreciation as per IRDAI norms. For example, a Kushaq with an ex-showroom price of around Rs. 15.80 Lakh that is 2 years old would have an IDV of approximately Rs. 12.64 Lakh (after 20% depreciation). Always choose an IDV close to the actual market value, setting it too low saves a small premium but severely under-insures your car.
Yes, NCB (No Claim Bonus) is fully transferable when you switch insurers at renewal. You need an NCB certificate or your previous renewal notice from your existing insurer to carry it forward to the new policy. Since NCB belongs to the owner (not the car) it even transfers if you sell your Skoda and buy a different model. NCB can reduce your OD premium by up to 50% after 5 claim-free years.
Yes, damage caused by floods, waterlogging, or cyclones is covered under comprehensive car insurance. However, if water enters the engine or turbocharger intake due to driving through a flooded area (causing hydrostatic lock), that specific engine damage is typically excluded unless you have an Engine Protector add-on. Skoda owners in flood-prone cities like Chennai, Mumbai, or Bengaluru should strongly consider adding this cover at a modest additional premium.
No, every current Skoda model in India (Kylaq, Slavia, Kushaq, Kodiaq, Kodiaq RS) runs a TSI turbo-petrol engine only; there is no factory diesel or CNG option, unlike some rivals. This actually simplifies your TP premium calculation, since the entire range falls under the standard cc-based petrol slabs with no separate diesel or CNG considerations to account for.
Every car insurance policy in India mandatorily includes a Compulsory Personal Accident (CPA) cover of Rs. 15 lakh for the owner-driver. This covers accidental death or permanent disability of the policyholder while driving the Skoda. Additional PA cover for co-passengers can be added as an optional rider. The CPA premium is Rs. 750/year and is included in your bundled policy — it cannot be opted out of unless you have a separate standalone PA policy.
