The Royal Enfield Meteor 350 is a relaxed, road-going cruiser powered by a 349cc air-oil-cooled, single-cylinder J-series engine that delivers 20.2 bhp and 27 Nm of torque — built for comfortable city commuting and effortless long-distance highway riding. Under the Motor Vehicles Act 1988, having a valid insurance policy is mandatory for every bike on Indian roads, and with the Meteor 350 priced between approximately Rs. 1.96 lakh and Rs. 2.23 lakh (ex-showroom), protecting your investment with the right cover is equally important. Whether you ride the Meteor on weekend highway runs or through congested city traffic, a suitable insurance plan ensures you are financially protected against accidents, theft, and third-party liabilities.
Updated in September 2025 with a slip-and-assist clutch, full LED lighting, Tripper navigation as standard, and USB Type-C charging across all variants, the Meteor 350 now offers significantly improved everyday usability.
Quick Links — Insurance Types:.
Third-Party Insurance (Mandatory)
Third-party insurance is the minimum legal requirement for riding a Royal Enfield Meteor 350 on any public road in India. It covers financial liability arising from bodily injury, death, or property damage caused to a third party — up to Rs. 7.5 lakh for property damage and unlimited liability for injury or death. However, it leaves your Meteor 350 completely unprotected: accidental damage, theft, flood damage during the monsoon, or fire — none of these are covered under a standalone third-party plan. Given the Meteor 350's on-road cost, relying only on third-party insurance is a significant financial risk.
Comprehensive Insurance (Recommended)
A comprehensive policy bundles third-party liability with own damage (OD) cover, making it the ideal choice for the Royal Enfield Meteor 350. It covers your bike against accidental damage, theft, fire, natural calamities like floods and cyclones, and in-transit damage — in addition to covering third-party claims. Given that the Meteor 350 attracts riders who tour across Indian highways and often park in unfamiliar locations, comprehensive cover gives you the financial security to ride without worry. It also allows you to add value-enhancing riders like zero depreciation and engine protection.
Standalone Own Damage (OD) Policy
Introduced by the IRDAI in September 2019, a standalone OD policy covers only your Royal Enfield Meteor 350 against accidental damage, theft, and natural disasters — without including third-party liability. It is useful if you have an active long-term third-party policy (typically issued for 5 years at the time of purchase) and wish to buy own damage coverage separately or from a different insurer. This option gives Meteor 350 owners more flexibility in managing their coverage across policy years.
The Royal Enfield Meteor 350, with its 349cc J-series engine, falls under IRDAI's '150cc to 350cc' two-wheeler bracket for third-party premium calculation. The annual TP premium for this bracket is Rs. 1,366 (excluding GST) as per the current IRDAI-notified rate. The final insurance cost for your Meteor 350 depends on several variables: the bike's age and current IDV, your city of registration (Zone A or Zone B), the type of coverage chosen (TP-only or comprehensive), your accumulated No Claim Bonus, the add-ons you select, and your claim history.
The Insured Declared Value (IDV) is the current market value of your Meteor 350 — calculated as the ex-showroom price minus age-based depreciation per the IRDAI schedule. For a brand-new Meteor 350, the IDV ranges from approximately Rs. 1.96 lakh (Fireball base variant) to Rs. 2.23 lakh (Supernova top variant), reflecting the ex-showroom price. IDV is the maximum amount you receive in the event of total loss or theft — which is why a higher IDV means a slightly higher premium but significantly better payout protection.
The Meteor 350's 349cc engine places it in the 150cc–350cc third-party premium bracket under IRDAI's motor insurance classification.

IRDAI classifies Indian cities into Zone A and Zone B for motor insurance pricing. Zone A covers metros — Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune, and Ahmedabad — and attracts higher premiums due to elevated accident frequency, higher theft rates, and greater repair labour costs.

GST Update (September 2025)
The 56th GST Council revised GST on two-wheelers with engines above 350cc to 40% (from 28%), effective 22 September 2025. This increases the on-road price of the Himalayan 450, which in turn raises the ex-showroom-linked IDV base for new purchases from late September 2025 onward. Buyers purchasing the Himalayan 450 after this date may have a slightly higher IDV and thus a marginally higher comprehensive premium than pre-revision estimates. TP premiums remain unchanged as they are IRDAI-regulated and not affected by GST revisions.

Note: Royal Enfield insurance premium varies from insurer to insurer and depends on factors such as registration year, location, IDV, add-on cover, make, model, variant and ex-showroom price. Figures shown are indicative estimates based on 2024–25 registration and IRDAI guidelines.
The Insured Declared Value (IDV) is the foundation of your Meteor 350 comprehensive insurance premium. IDV is essentially the current market value of your bike — calculated from the manufacturer's ex-showroom price minus depreciation based on the vehicle's age. For a brand-new Meteor 350, the IDV aligns closely with the ex-showroom price (roughly Rs. 1.96 lakh to Rs. 2.23 lakh depending on variant), and this figure represents the maximum amount you would receive in case of total loss or theft. As your Meteor 350 ages, the IDV — and consequently the premium — reduces.
Several other factors determine how much you ultimately pay for your Meteor 350 insurance. Riders registered in Zone A cities (Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Pune) attract a slightly higher premium than those in Zone B cities due to higher traffic density and accident risk. The add-ons you choose — such as zero depreciation or engine protection — add to the base OD premium. Your No Claim Bonus (NCB) is a significant discount: 20% after the first claim-free year, rising up to 50% after five consecutive claim-free years. The Meteor 350's 349cc engine places it in the 150cc–350cc compulsory deductible bracket (Rs. 100), and voluntary deductibles can further reduce your premium if you choose to bear a portion of the claim cost yourself.

Zero Depreciation Cover
When you file a claim for the Royal Enfield Meteor 350, insurers normally apply depreciation on replaced parts — plastic body panels, rubber components, and metal parts all attract deductions ranging from 10% to 50% depending on their age. With zero depreciation cover, you receive the full cost of parts replacement without any depreciation deduction. Given that genuine Royal Enfield parts for the Meteor 350 — chrome accents, mudguards, instrument cluster components — can be expensive, this add-on ensures your claim payout is not significantly eroded by depreciation cuts.
Engine and Gearbox Protection
The Meteor 350's 349cc air-oil-cooled J-series engine is the heart of the bike, and standard policies exclude damage from waterlogging — a real risk if you ride through flooded stretches during the monsoon in cities like Chennai, Mumbai, or Bengaluru. Engine and Gearbox Protection covers internal engine damage, hydrostatic lock repair, and gearbox failures that arise from water ingress or lubricant leakage — repairs that can run into thousands of rupees at an authorised Royal Enfield service centre. This add-on is strongly advisable for Meteor 350 owners who ride year-round.
Roadside Assistance (RSA)
Despite Royal Enfield's standard RSA package for the first year, it is worth securing your own RSA rider through your insurance for continued coverage. The Meteor 350, at 191 kg, is not an easy bike to manoeuvre if it breaks down mid-highway. RSA ensures 24x7 support including towing, flat tyre assistance, fuel delivery, battery jump-start, and emergency accommodation assistance — especially valuable on long-distance tours across remote highways where Royal Enfield's dealer network may be hours away.
Return to Invoice (RTI)
In the event of total loss or theft of your Royal Enfield Meteor 350, the standard claim payout is based on the IDV — which is lower than the original invoice value (ex-showroom price + registration + insurance paid at purchase). Return to Invoice cover bridges this gap, ensuring you receive the full invoice value of your Meteor 350 in a total loss or theft scenario. For a bike priced at up to Rs. 2.23 lakh ex-showroom, the on-road price differential makes RTI a worthwhile protection, especially in the first two to three years of ownership.
Consumables Cover
After a major accident, consumables such as engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, nuts, bolts, and clips need to be replaced — and these are not covered under a standard comprehensive policy. The Consumables Cover add-on ensures these small but cumulative costs are reimbursed as part of your Meteor 350 claim settlement. On an older bike or after a significant collision involving multiple panel repairs, consumables can easily add Rs. 2,000–Rs. 5,000 to the repair bill, making this add-on a practical and affordable inclusion.
Tyre Protection
The Royal Enfield Meteor 350's tyres — 100/90-19 at the front and 140/70-17 at the rear — are key to the bike's stability at highway speeds. Standard insurance does not cover tyre damage from cuts, punctures resulting in bulges, or accidental tyre bursts. The Tyre Protection add-on covers replacement or repair of tyres and tubes damaged during an insured event, ensuring that tyre-related repair costs do not come out of your pocket after an accident or road hazard incident.

Our expert team ensures you get the right cover for your Royal Enfield Meteor 350 at the best available premium. With a cashless claim, you take your Royal Enfield Meteor 350 to one of the insurer's 5,000+ network garages (including authorised Royal Enfield dealerships), and the insurer settles the repair bill directly. You only pay the compulsory deductible — making it the faster and more convenient option. With a reimbursement claim, you can take your bike to any garage of your choice, pay the full repair bill upfront and then submit the bills and documents to the insurer for reimbursement. SMC Insurance can help you identify the nearest network garage wherever you are in India.
The Insured Declared Value is the current market value of your Royal Enfield Meteor 350, calculated as the ex-showroom price minus depreciation based on the bike's age. For a new Meteor 350 variant, the IDV mirrors the ex-showroom price closely. This figure is the maximum sum insured — it is the amount you receive in the event of total loss or theft. As your Meteor 350 ages, the IDV decreases, which also lowers your annual comprehensive premium.
The No Claim Bonus is a discount on your own damage (OD) premium awarded for every claim-free policy year. For the Royal Enfield Meteor 350, the NCB starts at 20% after the first claim-free year and rises progressively — 25%, 35%, 45% — reaching 50% after five consecutive claim-free years. NCB is earned on the policy, not the bike, so it is transferable if you switch insurers. The NCB Protection add-on allows one claim per policy year without forfeiting your bonus — a lapse in the policy or a claim in any year without this add-on resets the NCB accumulation.
Standard insurance accounts for depreciation on replaced parts when settling a Meteor 350 claim. Plastic components attract 50% depreciation, rubber parts up to 50%, and metal parts are also subject to age-based deductions. Zero depreciation eliminates these cuts entirely, so you receive the full replacement cost of all parts — including the Meteor 350's chromed accessories and body panels — without any deduction. This add-on is most valuable in the first five years of the bike's life when parts costs are higher.
A deductible is the portion of each claim you bear before the insurer pays. For the Royal Enfield Meteor 350, the compulsory deductible is Rs. 100 (applicable to bikes above 150cc as per IRDAI guidelines). In addition to the compulsory deductible, you can opt for a voluntary deductible — agreeing to pay a higher amount out of pocket in exchange for a reduced OD premium. Choosing a voluntary deductible makes sense only if you are confident in your riding history and have a low probability of frequent claims.
An endorsement is a written amendment to your Meteor 350 insurance policy that modifies certain terms without requiring a fresh policy issuance. Common endorsements include recording a change in vehicle ownership after resale, updating the registered address, adding or removing declared accessories (such as Royal Enfield touring panniers or engine guards fitted after purchase), or correcting any data errors in the original policy document. Always ensure any modifications to your Meteor 350 are endorsed on the policy to avoid claim rejection.
Since January 2019, IRDAI has made Personal Accident (PA) cover mandatory for every registered two-wheeler owner-rider in India. For the Royal Enfield Meteor 350, this translates to a compulsory PA cover of Rs. 15 lakh, payable in case of accidental death or permanent total disability arising from a road accident. The PA cover is specifically for the owner-rider named in the policy; separate PA cover for a pillion passenger can be added through an optional add-on. If you already hold a standalone PA policy of Rs. 15 lakh or more, you may opt out of the bundled PA cover and save on premium.
Third-party insurance is mandatory for all motorcycles ridden on public roads in India
New two-wheelers are generally sold with a mandatory long-term 5-year third-party insurance cover at the time of purchase
Owner-driver Personal Accident (PA) cover of Rs. 15 lakh is mandatory unless the rider already holds an eligible standalone PA policy of equivalent or higher value
Standalone Own Damage (OD) policies can be purchased separately from third-party insurance, giving Meteor 350 owners flexibility to choose different insurers for TP and OD cover
NCB benefits are transferable between insurers and are typically retained for up to 90 days after policy expiry, subject to insurer rules
The Royal Enfield Meteor 350 is a cruiser designed for both daily commuting and long-distance touring, which means it needs coverage that matches the variety of conditions it faces. The ideal protection for most Meteor 350 owners is a comprehensive insurance policy paired with at minimum three add-ons: Zero Depreciation (to avoid depreciation deductions on genuine Royal Enfield parts), Engine and Gearbox Protection (essential given the risk of waterlogging on Indian roads), and Roadside Assistance (for peace of mind on remote highway stretches where the next authorised service centre may be far away). If your Meteor 350 is under three years old, Return to Invoice is also strongly recommended to close the gap between IDV and your original investment in case of theft or total loss.
