The Honda Amaze is one of India's most popular compact sedans — delivering solid fuel efficiency, a spacious cabin for its segment, and with the third-generation model launched in December 2024, a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating to back it up. Whether you own the base V Petrol MT or the top-spec ZX CVT, having the right car insurance is both a legal requirement and essential financial protection. SMC Insurance helps you compare 30+ insurers, choose the right plan for your Amaze and get an instant policy in minutes — with zero paperwork.
Quick Links — Insurance Types:
Before looking at premiums, it helps to understand what each policy type actually covers, because the difference is significant, especially if your Amaze is less than five years old.
Third-Party Insurance (Mandatory)
Third-party car insurance is the minimum legal requirement under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, for every Honda Amaze on Indian roads. It covers damage, injury, or death caused to a third party in an accident involving your car. What it does not cover is any damage to your own vehicle. While it carries the lowest premium, it leaves your Amaze completely unprotected against accidents, theft, or natural calamities. The gap between what you pay out of pocket after an
accident and what you saved on premium is rarely worth it.
Comprehensive Insurance (Recommended)
Comprehensive car insurance covers third-party liability and your own vehicle damage, making it the strongly recommended choice for all Honda Amaze owners. It protects against accidents, theft, fire, floods, earthquakes, and other perils. Given that even the base Honda Amaze variant is priced upwards of Rs. 7.51 Lakh ex-showroom, comprehensive coverage ensures you are never left with a large out-of-pocket repair bill. Optional add-on riders are available for enhanced
protection, and for a car of this value, several of them make real financial sense.
Standalone Own Damage (OD) Policy
If you already hold a valid third-party policy from another insurer, you can purchase a Standalone Own Damage policy separately to cover repair costs for your Honda Amaze. Standalone OD policies became available following IRDAI regulatory changes, giving car owners the flexibility to choose their own-damage insurer independently of their TP policy. This is particularly useful if you find a
better OD rate elsewhere at renewal time.
This is worth knowing before we get to premiums. The third-generation Honda Amaze was put through Bharat NCAP crash tests in 2025 and came away with a 5-star rating for Adult Occupant Protection (28.33 out of 32) and a 4-star rating for Child Occupant Protection (40.81 out of 49). All variants across the V, VX, and ZX lineup, in both manual and CVT versions, carry this rating.
Standard safety equipment on the 3rd Gen Amaze includes 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and the segment's first Level 2 ADAS suite under Honda SENSING. For insurance purposes, a car with this safety profile is a lower-risk asset. It is also a good argument for not under-insuring it by opting for the lowest possible IDV to save a few hundred rupees annually.

Third-party (TP) premiums for private cars are regulated and notified by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) in consultation with IRDAI. The TP rates currently applicable for the Honda Amaze are:
|

Up to 1000cc |
Rs. 2,094 |
|
1000cc to 1500cc |

Honda Amaze's 1199cc petrol engine falls in the 1000cc-1500cc slab, meaning an annual TP premium of Rs. 3,416.

IRDAI has recommended a revision of motor third-party premiums for FY2025-26, which is currently under MoRTH's consideration. Any upward revision will be officially notified via the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and will apply from the date of gazette notification. Renewing your policy before a rate revision is notified can help you lock in the current premium.

The Insured Declared Value (IDV) is the maximum amount your insurer will pay in case of total loss or theft of your Honda Amaze. IDV is calculated based on the ex-showroom price minus depreciation, as per IRDAI-prescribed depreciation rates:
|
Car Age |
Standard Depreciation |
IDV Retained |
Less than 6 months |
5% |
95% |
6 months to 1 year |
15% |

70% |

60% |
|
4 to 5 years |
50% |
50% |
For cars older than 5 years, IDV is agreed upon mutually between the insurer and the policyholder.
Always avoid choosing the lowest IDV simply to reduce the premium. It leaves you significantly under-insured in case of total loss, and the premium saving is usually a few hundred rupees that cost you lakhs in a real claim.
IRDAI classifies Indian cities into Zone A and Zone B for motor insurance pricing. Zone A cities carry slightly higher premiums due to greater traffic density, accident frequency and theft rates.
Zone A Cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad
Zone B Cities: All other cities and towns in India
Estimated Premium for a 3-Year-Old Honda Amaze V Petrol MT:

Rs. 9,000 – Rs. 12,500 |
Zone B (e.g., Coimbatore, Jaipur) |
Rs. 7,500 – Rs. 10,500 |
Premiums vary further based on insurer, IDV, NCB and add-ons selected.
If you have not made any claim during a policy year, you earn a No Claim Bonus (NCB), which is a discount applied to the own-damage (OD) portion of your premium at renewal. NCB is one of the most valuable benefits for careful Honda Amaze owners, and it compounds meaningfully over time.

Key NCB Facts:
NCB belongs to the owner, not the car, so it transfers when you change insurers. It is also lost the moment you make an own-damage claim during the policy year, which is why many Amaze owners with 35% or higher NCB choose to absorb minor repair costs out of pocket rather than file a claim. You can protect your accumulated NCB with an NCB Protect add-on, which is especially useful for policyholders who
have built up 45-50% NCB over several years.
Standard comprehensive insurance is a solid foundation, but for a car priced where the Amaze sits, a few add-ons are worth the extra premium every year. Here are the most useful ones:
Zero Depreciation Cover (Zero Dep):
At the time of a claim, insurers normally deduct depreciation on parts such as plastic, rubber, glass, and metal. Zero Dep eliminates this deduction entirely, meaning you receive the full repair or replacement cost without any depreciation cut. Strongly recommended for any Honda Amaze under 5 years old. Learn more about Zero Depreciation Car Insurance.
Engine Protector Cover:
Covers damage to the engine and gearbox caused by water ingression, hydrostatic lock, or leakage of lubricating oil, which are events not covered under standard comprehensive policies. Particularly important for Amaze owners driving in flood-prone areas. Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata owners especially should not skip this. Learn more about Engine Protector Cover.
Return to invoice (RTI) cover
In case of total loss through theft or damage beyond economical repair, RTI pays you the original invoice value of your Honda Amaze rather than the depreciated IDV. Strongly recommended for new Amaze cars in their first 1-3 years. Learn more about Return to Invoice Cover.
Roadside Assistance (RSA):
Provides 24x7 help if your Amaze breaks down anywhere, covering towing, battery jump-start, flat tyre assistance, emergency fuel delivery and more. Available from most insurers at a minimal additional premium and genuinely useful on highway drives. Learn more about Roadside Assistance Cover.
Key and Lock Replacement Cover:
Covers the cost of replacing lost or damaged car keys and locks, a practical and affordable add-on for urban Amaze owners who use their car daily. Learn more about Key and Lock Replacement Cover.
Tyre protection cover
Covers repair or replacement of damaged tyres and tubes due to accidental damage, bulging, or burst. These expenses are not covered under standard comprehensive policies, and tyre replacements are expensive enough to make this add-on worth considering.
Consumables cover
Covers the cost of consumables like engine oil, coolant, nuts and bolts, and grease, items that are excluded from standard claims. Useful for Amaze owners who want maximum claim settlement without minor deductions nibbling away at the payout.
NCB protect
Allows you to make one own-damage claim in a policy year without losing your accumulated NCB. Highly recommended for Amaze policyholders who have reached 35-50% NCB and are understandably reluctant to give it up.
Pay-As-You-Drive (PAYD) Cover:
Some insurers, under IRDAI's usage-based insurance guidelines, now offer PAYD policies where the own-damage premium is calculated based on actual kilometres driven. If you use your Amaze infrequently, for weekend drives or as a secondary vehicle, a PAYD policy can work out noticeably cheaper than a standard annual OD premium. Ask for a PAYD quote when comparing plans at smcinsurance.com.

Note for CNG Kit Owners
Honda offers a government-approved CNG kit retrofitment facility through authorised dealers for select variants of the All New Amaze. If your Amaze has a CNG kit fitted, you must inform your insurer at the time of purchasing or renewing your policy. The CNG kit needs to be insured separately, typically at around Rs. 50-60 per Rs. 1,000 of kit value. Failure to declare a retrofitted CNG kit can lead to claim rejection, even for
unrelated damage, so this is not a detail to overlook.

The third-generation Honda Amaze is a better-protected car than its predecessors, both on the road and on paper, with its 5-star BNCAP rating and a much stronger standard safety kit. That makes it even more important to match the car's on-road safety credentials with equally serious financial protection. A basic third-party policy meets the legal requirement but leaves you exposed to a car worth upwards of Rs. 7.51 Lakh. Comprehensive insurance with the right add-ons, particularly Zero Dep for newer cars and Engine Protection for those in high-rainfall cities, is the practical choice at this price point.
Whether you are buying fresh insurance for a new Amaze, switching insurers at renewal to get a better rate, or simply looking to add a protection layer you have been skipping, SMC Insurance makes the comparison effortless. Compare quotes from over 30 leading insurers, apply your No Claim Bonus, and secure instant digital protection for your Honda Amaze today, with zero paperwork and complete peace of mind.

Excellent Service
I have purchased a new vehicle and was looking for the car insurance with comprehensive coverage. SMC Website was quick to assist me with the premium amount and the payment process was easy. Happy with their services.
Smooth Process
I purchased my car insurance from SMC, and it has truly been worth it. When my car caused third-party damage, I simply shared the photos and videos with them. Thanks to Sachin, the customer executive, my insurer settled the claim within just a week. Really satisfied with the service!
Excellent Support
This is the best insurance company as they have assisted me well while buying the car insurance policy. Kudos to SMC!
Yes, under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, every Honda Amaze on Indian roads must carry at least third-party liability insurance. Driving without it attracts a fine of Rs. 2,000 and/or imprisonment of up to 3 months for the first offence, and Rs. 4,000 for subsequent violations, along with possible vehicle impoundment. Given that the Amaze is a family car used for daily commuting, a comprehensive policy provides far better protection than the legal minimum and is well worth the additional premium at this car's price point.
The legal minimum is a third-party (TP) policy. For new Honda Amaze cars purchased from a dealership, a 3-year bundled TP policy is mandatory at the time of registration. For existing Amaze cars, annual TP renewal is required. TP cover alone does not protect your Amaze against accidents, theft, floods, or fire, so a comprehensive plan is the right choice for this car's price point and the level of use most Amaze owners put it through.
IDV equals the ex-showroom price of your Honda Amaze minus IRDAI-prescribed depreciation. For an Amaze V Petrol MT priced at Rs. 7.51 Lakh that is 2 years old, the IDV would be approximately Rs. 6.01 Lakh after 20% depreciation. Always insist on an IDV close to the market value. A lower IDV reduces your premium marginally but significantly reduces your claim payout in a total loss or theft scenario.
Yes, NCB is fully portable across insurers. Request an NCB certificate from your existing insurer or use your previous renewal notice as proof. NCB belongs to the owner, not the car, so it transfers even if you sell your Amaze and buy a new vehicle. Five consecutive claim-free years earns a 50% discount on OD premium, which can save Honda Amaze owners a significant amount on their annual premium.
Yes, comprehensive insurance covers damage caused by floods, waterlogging, cyclones, and storms. However, if water enters the engine while driving through a flooded road, causing hydrostatic lock, that engine damage is typically not covered under a standard policy. Honda Amaze owners in flood-prone cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata should add an Engine Protector cover at renewal. It covers this specific gap at a modest additional premium and pays for itself many times over in a single incident.
A lapse of more than 90 days requires a pre-acceptance inspection of your Honda Amaze before the insurer will renew the policy. More critically, you lose all accumulated NCB, which can erase years of claim-free driving benefit. For lapses under 90 days, most insurers allow renewal without an inspection. Always renew before the policy expiry date to protect your NCB, avoid inspection delays, and stay legally compliant.
Zero Depreciation eliminates the standard deduction for part depreciation at the time of a claim. Without it, insurers deduct 25-50% depreciation on replaced plastic, rubber, and metal parts. For a Honda Amaze under 5 years old, Zero Dep ensures you receive the full repair cost, which is particularly valuable for bumper, headlamp, or tyre replacements. It adds approximately Rs. 1,800 to your annual comprehensive premium on the base variant and is one of the most cost-effective add-ons available.
Every Honda Amaze insurance policy mandatorily includes a Compulsory Personal Accident (CPA) cover of Rs. 15 lakh for the owner-driver. This covers accidental death or permanent total disability while driving the Amaze. Additional PA cover for co-passengers can be added as an optional rider. The CPA premium is Rs. 750 per year, bundled into your policy, and it cannot be waived unless you already hold a separate standalone personal accident policy of equivalent cover.
