Super Star’s base premium rises in five-year age slabs and also varies by zone and sum insured. In Star’s published Zone A table, a Rs. 10 lakh individual policy costs Rs. 6,721 a year at ages 18 to 25, Rs. 10,815 at 41 to 45 and Rs. 35,270 at 61 to 65. Zone B runs 12.5% below Zone A. The prospectus caps its listed discounts at 15% combined, monthly instalments add 4% and GST is nil on individual policies, so Star’s calculator gives the final figure after underwriting.

A 35-year-old and a 36-year-old buying the same Rs. 10 lakh Super Star cover in Delhi can end up with bills about 20% apart, simply because Star prices in five-year age slabs. Most buyers never see that cliff coming, since Star spreads its rates across zone-wise images and a prospectus table instead of one clean sheet. If you are shortlisting the Super Star Health Insurance Policy, this guide turns the Star Health Super Star plan premium chart into plain numbers, shows where the jumps sit and explains which discounts you can realistically claim. By the end you will know roughly what your own quote should look like before you ask for one.

Note: The figures are annual base premiums for one adult in Zone A, before underwriting adjustments, optional cover charges and discounts. The current Super Star policy is UIN SHAHLIP27049V022627. Confirm the applicable rates against Star Health's current premium schedule before using this chart to estimate a payable premium.

In the illustrated premium table, a 31-year-old and a 35-year-old fall within the same age band, with a listed base premium of Rs. 7,566 for Rs. 10 lakh cover. The figures also show notable increases when moving into higher age bands. These comparisons concern base premiums; the final payable amount may vary because of other policy factors.

Cover gets cheaper per rupee as it grows. In the youngest slab, Rs. 10 lakh costs only 20% more than Rs. 5 lakh and Rs. 1 crore costs about 2.1 times as much for twenty times the cover. Unlimited Sum Insured offers a different coverage structure from fixed-sum-insured options. Some benefits available with fixed cover, including cumulative bonus and automatic restoration, do not apply to Unlimited Sum Insured. Buyers should compare the premium difference, eligibility limits and applicable optional covers before choosing between Rs. 1 crore and Unlimited cover.

Super Star Premium by Zone: Where Your City Sits

Your pin code then scales every number in that table.

Zone A covers Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, parts of Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh, Mumbai with Thane and all of Gujarat. Zone B takes in Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Nashik, Kerala’s Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram, Indore and Gwalior, while Zone C is the rest of India and has its own table on Star’s page.

Across every Zone B cell we checked, the rate is exactly 87.5% of Zone A. A 30-year-old with Rs. 10 lakh pays Rs. 7,345 in Zone A and Rs. 6,427 in Zone B. One catch for Zone C residents: the Smart Network discount is not offered there.

Freeze Your Age: Dodging the Premium Jumps

Age is where Super Star behaves differently from a standard policy and where a little planning pays.

Super Star's Freeze Your Age benefit allows eligible policyholders to retain their entry age for premium calculations until a claim is paid under inpatient, day-care or AYUSH treatment, or until they cross the specified age limit. Star Health describes the benefit as available to people purchasing the policy up to age 50, with age-based premium recalculation after the applicable limit. For example, the published premium table used in this article shows a difference of Rs. 1,476 between entry ages 35 and 36 for Rs. 10 lakh cover in Zone A. However, the benefit freezes the age considered for premium calculation, not necessarily the insurer's underlying premium rates.

The lock covers your age, not the product’s rate. Star can revise rates on 30 days’ notice and IRDAI’s 30 January 2025 circular requires consultation before premiums for those aged 60 and above rise more than 10% a year.

Individual or Floater: Which Super Star Premium Costs Less?

Families ask this next and the prospectus answers with two worked examples.

In the prospectus illustrations, spouses aged 41 and 37 choosing Rs. 10 lakh cover in Zone A have a combined individual premium of Rs. 19,857, compared with Rs. 14,893 under a floater, representing a saving of approximately 25%. Another example involving adults aged 49 and 45 and three children aged 23, 21 and 19 shows Rs. 45,005 for separate coverage versus Rs. 32,074 for a floater, a difference of around 29%. The trade-off is that family members share one sum insured. Under the Freeze Your Age conditions described in Star's earlier prospectus, a paid qualifying claim by one floater member can also affect the locked age for the entire floater policy.

Instalments

Medical loading

Up to 125% per diagnosis, 200% per person

Note: From Star’s current prospectus. It caps the listed discounts at 15% combined, so ask which ones stack. Instalments forfeit the long-term and CIBIL discounts.

Consider a 30-year-old in Zone A choosing Rs. 10 lakh cover for three years. Using the illustrated annual base premium of Rs. 7,345, the total before discounts would be Rs. 22,035. A 10% discount for the second year and 12.5% for the third year would reduce the amount by approximately Rs. 1,653 in total. The actual amount payable will depend on the applicable premium, payment frequency, discount eligibility and underwriting.

Optional covers sit outside the chart. Quick Shield waives the pre-existing waiting period for diabetes, hypertension, asthma, high cholesterol and certain heart conditions from day 31, yet its premium runs for up to five years and Star deducts the unpaid balance from a claim made inside that window. GST is nil on individual health policies since 22 September 2025, so the chart’s figures are close to what you pay before loading and discounts. Buying for parents too earns the co-terminus discount only if their sum insured does not exceed yours.

Want the real figure rather than a table? Our advisors at SMC Insurance can run your age slab, zone and health declarations through the plan and the health insurance premium calculator before you pay anything.

Wrapping Up

Super Star pricing is a stack of rules rather than one number and the order matters. Start with your zone, then the five-year age slab, then the sum insured and only afterwards the discounts, which the prospectus caps. Freeze Your Age rewards anyone who enters at 50 or younger and the biggest saving is often just buying before a slab boundary. Treat every table here as a reference point, because rates get revised and underwriting can add loading. Run the calculator with honest declarations and ask an advisor if anything still looks unclear.

FAQs

Yes, Star Health publishes premium information for its Super Star policy through its official product documents and quotation facilities. Premiums vary by age, location, sum insured and other policy factors. Check the premium schedule applicable to the current product version and obtain a personalized quote before purchasing.

In the prospectus table, Rs. 10 lakh costs Rs. 7,345 a year in Zone A and Rs. 6,427 in Zone B for ages 26 to 30, before discounts and loading.

Individual health policies, including family floaters, have been GST exempt since 22 September 2025 under Notification 16/2025-CTR. Your quote should therefore show only the base premium, so check the exemption has been applied.

Yes, medical underwriting may affect the premium or the terms offered to applicants with pre-existing conditions. Super Star also provides optional benefits relating to waiting periods for specified conditions, subject to eligibility and policy terms. Check the applicable underwriting loading limits and waiting-period conditions in the current policy wording.

For young buyers, the frozen age, unlimited restoration, no co-pay and any-room cover justify it. Costs climb steeply after 60 and published claim ratios for Star vary by source, so check IRDAI’s annual report before deciding.
