From April 1, 2026, the Centre directed oil companies to sell ethanol-blended petrol with up to 20% ethanol, conforming to BIS specifications and having a minimum Research Octane Number (RON) of 95, across India's states and Union Territories, subject to limited exemptions. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has directed oil companies to sell this blend, meeting a minimum Research Octane Number of 95, across every state and union territory from April 1, 2026, with only limited regional exemptions permitted.
